Immune-Mediated Diseases

Presented by Lynda Vermillion, CVT, VTS (SAIM)

Immune-mediated disease is evidence of the body's defense mechanisms gone awry. IMHA, ITP, Immune-Mediated Polyarthopathy are examples of disease processes that occur when the body becomes its own worst enemy. This presentation will contain an overview of the immune system with a focus on recognition of clinical signs, diagnostic tests, treatment options, and the importance of long term monitoring and client compliance in order to support long term remission.
Speaker Bio - Lynda Vermillion has worked in the veterinary field for over 30 years. She graduated from the Northern Virginia Community College Veterinary Technician program earning her LVT in 1995. After working in several small animal, mixed animal, and emergency clinics as a technician and in supervisory roles, she decided to pursue a VTS in Small Animal Internal Medicine. She currently works in multiple departments at VCA CAVES and in the ER on a per diem basis at VECM.
